Desert Stone, Bronze, Sculptor, Artist
Paddi Moyer Studio - Desert Stone, Bronze, Sculptor, Artist "Desert Stone" defines many things – where the original is created, the mold is made, the stone is cast and finally where the piece is hand finished … All here in the Sonoran Desert.

Once the original has been created . . .

Fine ground pigments are added to a proprietary blend of dry powdered stone along with clear water and a process long in development, we then cast the stone into a master mold. Slight fracturing and individual mottling are inherent in this process giving individual character to each Desert Stone. Encompassing much time and thought, every sculpture has its own compelling story – a journey of stone, pigment, mica and metals, different colors unfolding making these stone pieces truly unique. With great detail I meticulously hand patina the sculptures in this last stage of the process with up to thirty layers of thin transparent washes giving some a luminous effect. Each Desert Stone sculpture in the series bears its own artistic thumbprint. Most of the pigments I use today come from Santa Fe, New Mexico, and are of the highest quality - one of the reasons for the richness of color. My Santa Fe source sums it up best …. "Our natural color pigment powders replicate the breathtaking beauty only Mother Earth can create. Made from rocks, mineral and earth they deliver a brilliance and inner depth that makes working with them an artistic adventure no ordinary paint can hope to achieve."

Installation for the Desert Stone wall sculpture is much like a framed painting. A sturdy wire has been installed across the top of the back of each art piece for easy hanging. The wall sculpture may weigh from 10 to 30 pounds, depending on its size.

Not only are these stone pieces exquisite in the home, they are exceptionally well suited for the public arena such as medical facilities - as can be viewed at Ironwood Dermatology in Tucson. Pedestals are not required as with other sculptures, yet the three dimensional quality of Desert Stone wall pieces present many angles of viewing from your living environment. Once your wall sculpture has been placed in your home or office you will see the significance of light. As the rays change throughout the day, so will your Desert Stone sculpture, its mood shifting with the ever changing sun – another quality of these most unusual creations.
